Kentucky is #1 in the nation for rates of child abuse and neglect per capita. Even before the pandemic, our state foster care system was drastically underfunded to care for the record 10,000 children who have been removed from their homes.
And during state lockdowns, we know families are dealing with extreme stressors that may lead to increased child abuse or neglect.
As our society reopens, we expect reports of child abuse to dramatically increase. We'll need more resources to care for these children.
